The VWB Culture
Our principals and staff at Van Woert Bigotti dedicate themselves to various community organizations. Our primary effort is oriented toward education, recreation and the arts.
Van Woert Bigotti has been a Partner-in-Education (P.I.E.) with Donner Springs Elementary School for the last fifteen years.
Some of the things we do
- Tutor lower grades (1st & 2nd) in reading, math and art skills.
- Participate in judging the annual Science Fair.
- Conduct an annual "Egg Drop". (This event requires Students to design a package to protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from a height of 28 feet.)
- Assist students in designing projects for the school. Some to date are; a greenhouse for plant experiments, an outside "Eco-Lab" which includes native plant species and a recirculating water feature and an interior "Hydroponics" project.
- Participate on the 21st Century Advisory Board which focuses on developing school partnerships and fundraising strategies.
- Provide volunteers to participate in "Reading Week".
Through our involvement with the American Institute of Architects we annually spend time teaching students the basic principles of architecture in the "architects in the classroom" program. Both Brad and Angela are active members of AIA Northern Nevada, where each served as its president. Brad was recently awarded the AIA Nevada Silver Medal, the state's highest individual honor for service to the AIA. Brad is also a founding member of the Black Rock Design Institute, a non-profit organization that promotes quality design throughout Northern Nevada.
