Father George Wolff's approach to leading a parish is friendly and down to earth. He enjoys a more relaxed and less formal approach to Catholic procedures and therefore inspired the architecture accordingly. His intent was to break away from tradition and address the design for this young parish with modern principles of space, form and detail. For this growing parish community that prides itself on having a contemporary and relaxed spirit of Catholic worship, the design looks to the site, views, and the owner's brief for inspiration rather than traditional roots of Roman Catholic architectural typologies.

The design was inspired by the church's spiritual nature, the sloping site, and spectacular views to the Spanish Springs valley, it's foothills, and the Sierra Mountains. By understanding the contextual morphology of the landscape and context, along with the role of the church, the design responds with an appropriate monumentality and grandeur to pridefully convey the presence of this parish as a beacon in the community and a representation of the contemporary spirit at Holy Cross.
