1/99 - 9/99 owner/buildersvwb and JLS Design provided schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration for Scott Meek & Son Concrete Co. Office Building. This building explores the idea of the 'building as a billboard'. This structure is a kit of parts, which acts as a canvas to display their quality of concrete construction in the form of acid stained concrete floors, concrete counter tops, and a sample gallery in the rear yard. The primary organizing element, a continuous 8'-0" high concrete wall, traverses the project figuratively and literally. Modular in nature, the design uses economy of means in form, dimension and materials. This simple 'shed' form incorporates the use of wood and metal to compliment and highlight the concrete. The constraining budget was a challenge and an opportunity for aesthetics.
