The Washoe County Elementary Schools were master-planned by SVWB to be both flexible and site adaptable. The Washoe County School District implemented this design for over twenty-one different locations. As part of the master-planning effort for specific sites, SVWB worked closely with land planners and landscape architects to coordinate the architecture with key parks and community recreation areas. The design also provides a double function as the community uses the multi-purpose space for various events. The student entrance and gathering area is open and spacious, with overhead skylights, pillars representing crayons or pencils, and a different art scheme in each school. The primary programmatic change in these schools is the District's requirement of the student-teacher ratio of 15-1.
